The University of Manchester young researchers report is here!

Earlier this year we ran our #BeeWell Young Researchers Programme which introduces Year 10 pupils to the world of research with a focus on wellbeing. Pupils helped shape and direct parts of the analyses carried out by the #BeeWell research team.

The programme ran for its fifth year, and in person for the first time, from February-March 2026. This year, young researchers from schools in Greater Manchester joined researchers at The University of Manchester. Together, they decided to explore the relationship between friendships and social support, behavioural difficulties, and gender.

When asked about their experience of the programme, Curtis (a pupil from one of the participating schools) said:

This was a fabulous experience, and I felt very fortunate to be able to take part. I have learnt lots of things about graphs and data, including the different types of data, correlation co-efficient, chance and bias, and so much more. This gives us a lot of insight into what the data and results of the survey are being used for and also have some knowledge about the wellbeing of teenagers in #BeeWell areas. I strongly recommend joining the programme if you have the opportunity to, as you can learn a lot of things that you would not normally learn in
school, and get to make new friends from other schools as well.”
