Listen. Act. Celebrate.

Driving change for young people’s wellbeing.

#BeeWell is a collaboration between The University of Manchester, The Gregson Family Foundation, and Anna Freud, who, together with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), launched the programme in 2019.

Developed in response to a growing concern for the wellbeing of young people in the UK, the #BeeWell programme is working with young people, secondary schools and a coalition of partners across local government, health and the voluntary sector. Together we listen to young people about their wellbeing, and drive action in response to what they say.

Using a co-created survey delivered annually in schools, we find out what affects young people’s wellbeing and what can be done to improve it.

Since 2021, we’ve listened to the voices of more than 130,000 young people across Greater Manchester and Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton, working with around 300 schools.

We share the results privately with schools and publicly online. We help schools and partners to use the data to make improvements, and we produce valuable research insights to help drive change too.

Join us in calling for a national wellbeing measurement programme!

Together with The Children’s Society, Fair Education Alliance and Pro Bono Economics, alongside more than 40 other organisations, we are calling on the government to implement a national wellbeing measurement programme to address the needs of children and young people across England.

The wellbeing of children and young people in the UK is at an all-time low. Latest PISA data reveals that 1 in 4 children report low wellbeing, making the UK the lowest-ranked country in Europe.

Only by listening to young people and what they tell us about their wellbeing, can we begin to understand why and address this.
