Our Wellbeing Our Voice campaign progress
Alongside The Children’s Society, Fair Education Alliance and Pro Bono Economics, and together with a coalition of more than 30 other organisations, #BeeWell is calling for a national wellbeing measurement programme, to listen to young people across England, to be included as an amendment to the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill.
“This is a really important moment and opportunity. It works so well in the areas that #BeeWell is already running in, and it would make a massive difference if it was running across the country” – #BeeWell Youth Steering Group Members

Latest Campaign Progress:
Having released a joint response to the publication of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill and briefed MPs in time for the Second Reading – we are really pleased with the momentum that has now gathered behind the call for a national youth wellbeing measurement programme during the committee stage of the Bill’s progression.
With our support, Munira Wilson MP for Twickenham has tabled an amendment to the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill calling for national children and young people’s wellbeing measurement.
The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill committee heard evidence from experts last week. Mark Russell, CEO of The Children’s Society presented evidence to the Bill committee, calling for national wellbeing measurement. Anne Longfield CBE, Executive Chair of Centre for Young Lives and Dr Carol Homden CBE, CEO of Coram also made the case for a measurement programme. To further support discussion, Our Wellbeing Our Voice Coalition submitted written evidence to the committee.
Together with the Our Wellbeing Our Voice coalition, we have also submitted a bid to HM Treasury’s spending review, demonstrating how wellbeing measurement would support the Government’s missions.
Why are we campaigning on wellbeing measurement?
The wellbeing of children and young people in the UK is at an all-time low. Latest PISA data reveals that 1 in 4 children report low wellbeing, making the UK the lowest-ranked country in Europe.
Only by listening to young people and what they can tell us about their wellbeing, can we begin to understand why and address this. Measuring children’s wellbeing will not only provide the insights needed to drive change but will also demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of the next generation, and put young people’s voices at the heart of decision-making.
