80% of all mainstream secondary schools in Greater Manchester have signed up to #BeeWell!
We are delighted to announce that 80% of all mainstream secondary schools in Greater Manchester have signed up to #BeeWell, bringing our total, thus far, to 187 schools. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners and all those involved the school engagement process – your support with #BeeWell has been invaluable. We will continue work with our partners to engage as many of the remaining schools as possible after the summer holidays.
If you are connected to a secondary school interested in signing up, please visit beewellprogramme.org.
Young people from the #BeeWell team have written about the survey for the What Works Center for Wellbeing blog
Bethan and Meera, members of the Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority and our #BeeWell Advisory Group, have written a blog on the What Works Centre for Wellbeing website giving insights into how young people have been at the heart of designing the #BeeWell survey. We would like to thank Bethan and Meera for all their hard work and support with #BeeWell.
“Having young people work with Advisory Boards was not only an incredible opportunity for them to make a real change within Greater Manchester but brought fresh perspective and insights and has ensured that the questionnaire was genuinely created with young people in mind.”

Survey items finalised and to be published in the coming weeks
The #BeeWell survey has now been finalised and consists of 110 items that cover three domains and six drivers of wellbeing. The domains of wellbeing include Meaning, Purpose and Control, Understanding Yourself, and Emotions. The drivers of wellbeing include Health and Routines, Hobbies and Entertainment, School, Relationships, Environment and Society, and the Future. We intend to publish the #BeeWell survey in the coming weeks and will provide an update on when this is available.
Adaptation of our inclusive survey is underway
Throughout July, the #BeeWell team have been working with teachers and pupils from Special Schools and Pupil Referral Units to co-design a more accessible version of the #BeeWell survey. Young people from these schools provided invaluable insights into what aspects of wellbeing matters most to them, and as a result, their voices have directly shaped the formation of an adapted version of the #BeeWell survey. With the guidance of representatives from Special Schools, the #BeeWell team are also in the process of developing a set of visual augments to meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs. We hope that these adaptations will ensure the voices of all pupils from Greater Manchester will be heard and represented and will form an integral part of the positive change we plan to make in all communities across Greater Manchester.
#BeeWell Day
To celebrate the launch of the #BeeWell survey in schools, the #BeeWell team and our Youth Steering Group are organising a series of events over September 23rd and 24th to celebrate and support young people’s wellbeing. #BeeWell Day will include events ranging from panel discussions and Q&As, to outdoor activities and poster-making workshops. We aim to include as many young people and schools as we can, both online and in person.
If you would like to help us celebrate young people’s wellbeing on #BeeWell Day or know any organisations who can support us in our set up, please reach out to us at beewell@manchester.ac.uk
We would like to thank all the many partners who have helped guide and shape our work as we prepare to launch the largest ever survey of young people’s views in October. If you are aware of any others who you believe could work with us, we would love to hear from you. In the meantime, thanks for reading and we hope you have a lovely summer break!
