Cultivating young researchers: #BeeWell & LifeLab inspiring student-led wellbeing impact

Schools across Hampshire and Southampton join a new initiative training young people to interpret and act on their wellbeing data.

#BeeWell have partnered with @lifelab-university-of-southampton in an exciting new programme that sees schools and young people trained in research skills with a view to interpreting their #BeeWell findings and taking action.

In July teachers from 18 schools from across Hampshire and Southampton are attending a two-day NxtGen Training the Trainer course being delivered by LifeLab at the University of Southampton. The programme is funded by The Gregson Family Foundation and the National Lottery Community Fund.

It will provide the skills, knowledge, and resources for school staff to deliver their own Young Researchers project with their students, using the #BeeWell data as the starting point for students to explore, contextualise, research the ‘why’ and create a case for change.

In the Autumn term, each teacher will implement their training by working with a group of students from their school, where they’ll pass on their learning and dive into their #BeeWell survey results. The students will explore their thoughts on why the data shows the results it does, then choose a research question to focus on, carry out peer research and then cocreate a plan to address and improve the identified areas.

This new initiative steps up the youth-led response to the survey findings and allows teachers and students to work together to improve the wellbeing outcomes for everyone in their school.
