The #BeeWell Young Researchers Programme offers Year 10 pupils a unique introduction to academic research, with a particular focus on understanding and improving youth wellbeing. Working closely with members of the #BeeWell research team, participants develop GCSE-level quantitative research skills and gain first-hand experience analysing real #BeeWell survey data. Youth voice is at the core of the #BeeWell Young Researchers Programme. Every stage from choosing topics to forming hypotheses to interpreting findings is led by young people themselves.
The programme completed its fourth successful year in June 2025.
Spotlight on the 2025 Young Researchers
2026’s young researchers chose to investigate the relationship between listening to music, reading for enjoyment, stress, school pressure, and gender & sexuality—five areas they felt were particularly important to their generation.
Together with the research team, they developed four research questions and accompanying hypotheses focusing on the relationships between these variables.
Their thoughtful analysis provides fresh insight into the factors shaping young people’s wellbeing today and will directly inform future research carried out by The University of Manchester’s #BeeWell team.
A huge congratulations to our Young Researchers for their curiosity, hard work, and commitment.
