Good Childhood Report calls for national measurement of children’s wellbeing
Now in its 13th year, The Children’s Society’s Good Childhood Report 2024 once again illustrates the worrying decline in children’s wellbeing. According to the report, 15-year-olds in the UK have the lowest average life satisfaction when compared to their peers in 26 other European countries.
Given this, the report says: “The Government must begin a national mission to overturn the decline in children’s wellbeing” and calls for the introduction of “a national measurement of children’s wellbeing, conducted every year to ask every child about their wellbeing, helping to guide the national mission and inform policy and local delivery.”
We wholeheartedly agree with The Children’s Society that now is the time to start measuring young people’s wellbeing nationally!
The Fair Education Alliance calls for national roll-out of the #BeeWell approach as part of their ‘Priorities for a New Government’
A new Fair Education Alliance (FEA) report has called on the new Government to collect “nationally consistent, comprehensive data about the wellbeing of young people, using the work of #BeeWell as a model.”
The report says: “We have seen #BeeWell’s data already inspire solutions across society. School leaders could use this data to better understand the needs of their pupils and what interventions might be required. Data could also help the Government understand the case for investment in training, resources, and interventions, and how to secure the best value-for-money solutions.”
We thank the FEA for championing the importance of measuring wellbeing nationally!
