Pro Bono Economics calls for universal children’s wellbeing measurement

Pro Bono Economics, working closely with #BeeWell and an alliance of charities, has released a report calling on the UK government to commit to universal children’s wellbeing measurement – an important step towards addressing the current crisis in children’s wellbeing.

The report, ‘Charting A Happier Course for England’s Children: The Case for Universal Wellbeing Measurement’  joins reports from the Fair Education Alliance, The Children’s Society, Child of the North and Centre for Young Lives, and Anna Freud in calling for a national youth wellbeing measurement programme.

Find our library of reports calling for national wellbeing measurement here.

Young people’s wellbeing on the agenda at all three Party Conferences

We were thrilled to see young people’s wellbeing on the agenda at all three major party conferences! #BeeWell colleagues and friends spoke at panel events at Labour Party Conference, the Liberal Democrat Party Conference, and at the Conservative Party Conference. Championing youth wellbeing, sharing the impact of #BeeWell for driving change, and advocating for a national wellbeing measurement programme.

No Limits announces new funding for Isle of Wight project informed by #BeeWell data

Local youth charity No Limits will be helping teenagers on the Isle of Wight who are persistently absent or at risk of exclusion from education.

Vicki Mogridge-Percy, Project Manager, said: “the #BeeWell survey of young people’s wellbeing highlighted that the need for support is high, and we know that the Island’s above average school absence rate is often caused by other difficulties in a young person’s life.”

Resources for schools: action planning tools

The #BeeWell school support team has produced a useful list of action planning tools, to help schools to reflect on needs, practice and provision, and to plan for improvement. The list signposts schools to tools that link to the drivers and domains of wellbeing included in the #BeeWell survey and to Whole School Approach resources that look at wellbeing more broadly.

Find the list here.

Impact measurement training for #BeeWell partners

For #BeeWell partners supporting children under the age of 16 and improving outcomes for young people at risk of school exclusion: Pro Bono Economics (PBE), IntegratED and #BeeWell are offering free expert-led training on how you can best evidence and communicate the economic and wellbeing impacts of your work. Learn about the steps to reach an economic evaluation that might allow your organisation to say, “for every £1 spent, we generate £X of benefits to society”. Training dates are Tuesday 3rd and Thursday 5th December.

Apply here to participate or get in touch with PBE at projects@probonoeconomics.com

Don’t miss our SPACES event, part of our Spotlight on Hobbies season!

Don’t forget, on October 8th, we will be joined by Kirith Entwistle, MP for Bolton North East, colleagues from Football Beyond Borders, Factory International and Creatives Now CIC, and young people involved in these programmes, to discuss the impact of hobbies for youth wellbeing, and how we can best support young people to take part in arts, culture, entertainment and sports.
