In September 2023, #BeeWell Festival returned for the third year, celebrating the launch of the survey in schools again and the brilliant contributions of young people to the #BeeWell programme. Up to 100 young people from Greater Manchester schools joined us again at the iconic Depot Mayfield.
Beginning the day, The Shoopery launched a workshop with all attendees. Focusing on finding the balance between all the things we need to do for our wellbeing, everyone thought about what we need to do to sleep, study and socialise.
Then, our fantastic partners 42nd Street and GM Moving opened the Creative Zone and Get Moving Zones for young people to trial a variety of creative and physical activities. This year, we were delighted to have circus skills from The Circus House, skateboarding from Greystone, BMX biking from Access Sport, and football skills with Steve Grey. In the Creative Zone, young people got involved in 42nd Street’s Giant Head’s exhibition, and much more!
Our #BeeWell marketplace this year also featured more activities from our partners – thanks to Kooth & Renaisi for joining us on the day! We also spent time asking young people what they think about the places they can go in their free time, as we found out in the #BeeWell survey that just under 15 young people in an average class of 22 Year 9 young people think they have good places to go. Looking at a map of GM, we heard what young people thought about the places they can go nearby.
To close the day, Company Chameleon led a workshop teaching young people movements focused on three themes – active, breath and rest. You can find out more on their #BeeWell Week worksheet.
Thank you to our brilliant partners and schools who got involved in the day – we were delighted to come together and celebrate what we are all doing to make young people’s wellbeing everybody’s business.
