We are expanding: expression of interest now open

Would you like up to £100,000, expert backing and a proven approach to transforming support for young people across your local authority or mayoral combined authority?

Since 2021, #BeeWell has worked with over 320 schools and listened to almost 200,000 young people across Greater Manchester and Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton, helping local partners turn young people’s voices into action. Now, with support from The National Lottery Community Fund, #BeeWell is expanding nationally and is seeking its first new partner location for the next phase of growth.

#BeeWell is a proven place-based programme that helps local areas understand, improve and evidence young people’s wellbeing and tackle challenges such as school attendance, NEETs and encouraging healthy lifestyles. Working with young people, schools and partners across local government, health and the voluntary sector, we provide the data, tools and support needed to drive early intervention and system-wide action.

What #BeeWell offers:

  • Financial contribution to setup costs in Years 1 and 2.
  • Guidance and support as to how to cocreate the local programme, including survey design, local adaptation, and engagement with schools to ensure maximum participation.
  • Access to the full suite of #BeeWell resources, including electronic survey templates, dashboard code, theory of change, GDPR guidance, and supporting materials for use with schools.
  • Free school support in Year 1 from the Child Outcomes Research Consortium (CORC), part of Anna Freud, helping schools embed and use the findings effectively.
  • Expert assistance on call, drawing on the #BeeWell research team at the University of Manchester, and its regional and national delivery teams.

#BeeWell is now funded to enter its next phase of expansion and is exploring opportunities to work with 3 to 5 new areas that want to prioritise early intervention and support for young people.

In particular, #BeeWell aims to work initially with one new partner location for roll out in autumn 2027, which will help to shape and inform delivery in subsequent locations.

Indicative timeline:

  • End 2026: Partnership agreed
  • Early 2027: Local preparation and mobilisation
  • Autumn 2027: First survey delivery
  • 2028 onwards: Ongoing insight and action to drive positive change

For a successful #BeeWell partnership we are seeking agreement to:

  • Co-fund and operate locally for at least 3 years, with clear leadership, governance and resourcing.
  • The core ethos of #BeeWell: youth co-creation, the formation of a local coalition of partners across statutory and non-statutory services to respond to the results, willingness to share core data to inform wider support for young people.
  • Actively use the data to drive change – the survey is only the beginning.
  • Meet key technical parameters of the survey/data, including secure, robust platforms.
  • Meet key ethics and information governance standards.
  • Support schools longer-term.
  • Engage with other partners to ensure learnings are maximised.

We are inviting expressions of interest from Local Authorities and Mayoral Combined Authorities across England that are committed to improving outcomes for young people through evidence-led action. We are particularly keen to speak with areas interested in becoming the first partner location in this next phase of expansion and helping shape the future of #BeeWell nationally.
