Robert Henderson, Executive Director Wellbeing (Children & Learning)
Robert Henderson is the Executive Director Wellbeing (Children & Learning) in Southampton City Council. He has been a social worker in children services for almost 30 years and a Director of Children Services in 4 local authorities, most recently in Southampton City Council.
He is focused on improving the lives of children and young people, tackling the inequalities that lead to poorer outcomes for those who are in poverty. The connection between poverty, educational outcomes, statutory social work intervention, becoming involved in criminal activity, becoming a child looked after by the local authority and poor mental health are well evidenced.
Tackling trauma, emotional and mental issues as early as possible is a major passion for Robert and ensuring child mental health is everyone’s business. Doing so helps children and young people develop the resilience needed to face life’s challenges.
